Have you ever had one of those moments where you think you just made this huge discovery, and it ends up being something that you learnt a long time ago, or something just like it? Well, that's what just happened to me. I thought I had something new and exciting, when it ended up being something I learned in class the other day. I found a pattern in exponents where the x^2 is equal to 2(x-1)+1, so the difference between two squared numbers would be 2 greater than the number before (ex. 0^2+1=1^2, 1^2+3= 2^2, 2^2+5=3^2, this actually works). After looking at it for a while, I figured out that this was just doing (x+1)^2, and I felt really embarrassed and sad when I found this out. But in the end, it was a great learning experience, and I gained a better understanding of math. If anything like this ever happens to you, you shouldn't be embarrassed or sad, because it happens to everyone, and you should learn from your mistakes.
